Food peptides vs therapeutic peptides
Same word, very different things.
Food peptides
When you digest protein, it breaks into peptides and then amino acids. Products like collagen peptides are protein that has been pre-broken into small pieces. They're food: your body digests them into building blocks.
Therapeutic peptides
Therapeutic peptides are specific sequences designed to send a signal, such as GLP-1 medicines like semaglutide. Most would be destroyed by digestion, which is why many are injected. Some are FDA-approved medicines; many discussed online are research compounds that have not been established as safe or effective in people.
Why the difference matters
- Food peptides are regulated as foods or supplements; therapeutic peptides are regulated as drugs.
- Food peptides provide nutrition; therapeutic peptides act on specific receptors.
- A good nutrition base makes any other tool work better, and no tool replaces it.
